Speaker Matt Hall and House Republicans delivered a major win for taxpayers by leading the effort to defund SOAR, the failed corporate welfare fund that became a symbol of Lansing’s broken economic development strategy.
For years, SOAR handed out massive taxpayer funded incentives to politically connected corporations with little accountability and weak results. Michigan taxpayers were asked to write big checks while promised jobs often failed to materialize.
Speaker Hall recognized the problem and acted. Rather than continue pouring money into failed corporate giveaways, House Republicans are focused on real relief for existing businesses, workers, and taxpayers.
This is exactly the kind of reform conservatives have been demanding. End the giveaways. Stop rewarding insiders. Build an economy that supports the people already investing, hiring, and working in Michigan.
SOAR is dead because Speaker Hall and House Republicans refused to keep funding failure.
