The establishment media will have you believe that Michigan was going to explode because there was no budget deal to be reached. They would have you believe that things were going to be so bad. But Speaker Matt Hall once again proved that strong negotiating gets results.
While pessimists and Lansing insiders doubted him, Hall brought Democrats back to the table and delivered a budget framework that protects taxpayers. The deal includes no new taxes, no withdrawals from the rainy day fund, and a budget that is smaller than last year’s.
That is exactly what conservative leadership looks like.
Governor Whitmer and legislative Democrats started with a bloated spending wish list. Speaker Hall rejected that approach and forced a serious conversation about fiscal discipline, taxpayer protection, and responsible budgeting.
Just like President Trump, Hall understands the art of the deal. You do not get results by surrendering before negotiations begin. You get results by holding the line, using leverage, and forcing the other side to accept reality.
This budget framework is a major win for Michigan families. No new taxes. No raid on savings. Less spending than last year. Speaker Hall proved once again that House Republicans can govern responsibly while protecting the people who pay the bills.
