Under Speaker Matt Hall’s leadership, House Republicans continue to put parents first and protect the health and well-being of Michigan children.
House Bill 5974 strengthens parents’ access to their minor children’s medical records, including when a child receives certain medical services without parental consent. The legislation makes clear that healthcare providers cannot keep parents in the dark unless federal law specifically requires them to do so.
Parents are responsible for medications, insurance, follow-up care and major decisions affecting their children’s health. They deserve the information necessary to fulfill that responsibility and guide their children toward better health outcomes.
Speaker Hall and House Republicans understand that parents—not bureaucrats or institutions—should be the primary decision-makers in their children’s lives. By advancing HB 5974, they are restoring parental rights, strengthening transparency and putting Michigan families first.
