Shining a light on Michigan’s Politics

Speaker Matt Hall and House Republicans are continuing their focus on one of the most important priorities facing Michigan: preparing children for success.

House Republicans recently advanced a series of education reforms designed to help students learn earlier, read better, and enter the next stage of their education prepared to succeed. Unfortunately, they are stuck with the State Senate Democrat Majority. The plan accelerates the implementation of phonics instruction, strengthens third grade reading efforts, expands early childhood learning opportunities, and ensures schools have the tools necessary to help students build foundational skills.

For too long, Michigan has struggled with declining educational outcomes and learning loss. Speaker Hall believes the answer is simple: put students first and focus on what works.

These reforms are designed to help children master reading at an earlier age, improve long term academic achievement, and create a stronger pipeline of future workers, innovators, and leaders. By implementing phonics instruction sooner and strengthening literacy standards, House Republicans are working to ensure Michigan students have every opportunity to succeed.

Speaker Hall has made clear that Michigan’s future depends on the success of its children. House Republicans are focused on delivering policies that help students thrive and build a brighter future for families across the state, while Senate Democrats are focused on putting our kids last.
