Speaker Matt Hall is outlining a Republican agenda centered on lowering property taxes and making Michigan a better place to build and grow a business.
In an interview with Bridge Michigan, Hall pledged to continue fighting to “dramatically lower property taxes.” The Republican-led House has already passed a proposal to eliminate Michigan’s six-mill state property tax, although the proposal did not include a replacement funding plan for the lost revenue.
Hall also identified improving Michigan’s business regulations as a priority, emphasizing the importance of helping existing employers stay and expand alongside efforts to attract new investment. He told Bridge he would renew efforts to repeal the state’s 2023 clean-energy mandates.
Local control remains another part of Hall’s approach. He has opposed giving state regulators authority to approve major wind and solar developments over local objections, arguing that residents should have a meaningful voice in decisions affecting their communities.
Together, those priorities offer a clear direction: reduce the burden on homeowners, continue Hall’s strong record of putting more money back in people’s pockets, give communities more say and improve the conditions for businesses to create jobs.
For families watching their budgets, the test is practical: whether Lansing’s decisions leave more money in their pockets and more opportunity close to home.
