Remembering September 11 and honoring our Constitution should be an easy call. For Democrat Mai Xiong, apparently it wasn’t.
While serving on the Macomb County Board of Commissioners in 2021, Xiong voted against a proclamation recognizing Patriot Week and Constitution Day. Explaining her opposition, she said, “We should be critical. We should be questioning the status quo.”
There is nothing extreme about honoring the Americans lost on September 11 or recognizing our founding principles. Turning that remembrance into a political objection shows just how far out of step parts of today’s Democratic Party have become.
