Speaker Matt Hall and House Republicans are delivering on their promise to take on the powerful special interests that have controlled Lansing for far too long.
Under Hall’s leadership, the Michigan House voted 77-26 to approve the citizen-led Michiganders for Money Out of Politics proposal. The plan would prohibit regulated utilities and major government contractors from using campaign contributions to influence candidates and public officials responsible for overseeing them.
While Speaker Hall and House Republicans stood with ratepayers, taxpayers and more than half a million Michiganders who signed the petition, 26 House Democrats voted against the reform.
This is what strong leadership looks like. Speaker Hall has fought utility rate hikes, challenged corporate welfare and demanded greater accountability throughout state government. Now, he is leading the charge to ensure government decisions are made for Michigan families, not corporations with the biggest checkbooks.
House Republicans are putting people before powerful special interests and proving once again that Speaker Hall gets results.
