Shining a light on Michigan’s Politics

The Citizens Research Council has long been treated by reporters as a neutral voice in Michigan policy debates. But new reporting raises serious questions about that image.

According to The Midwesterner, the organization has received millions from foundations tied to left wing causes and progressive priorities. That matters because CRC has repeatedly attacked Republican budget priorities while being presented by many in the media as nonpartisan.

Speaker Hall and House Republicans have been clear that groups weighing in on public policy should be judged honestly. If an organization is funded by progressive donors, staffed by people with political leanings, and attacking conservative reforms, reporters should stop pretending it is above politics.

This is not about silencing criticism. It is about demanding honesty from the institutions that shape public debate.

Michigan voters deserve the full picture. Speaker Hall and House Republicans are right to call out the double standard and demand that the media stop laundering left wing talking points as neutral analysis.
