Speaker Matt Hall is standing with President Trump’s team in demanding a better deal for Michigan taxpayers on the Gordie Howe Bridge.
Hall has studied the agreement closely and made clear that the project has become far more expensive and delayed than originally promised. The bridge is eight years behind schedule and 4 billion dollars over budget. Under the current operating agreement, Michigan and the United States may not see revenue for at least 50 years.
Hall called that what it is: a bad deal.
The Speaker has said he supports efforts by Trump administration leaders to pursue a fairer arrangement, including a 50-50 split on bridge toll revenues. Hall has pointed to the Blue Water Bridge as a better model, where Michigan and Canada share ownership and operations equally.
Michigan taxpayers should not be stuck with a deal where costs rise, timelines slip, and revenue never reaches the state. Speaker Hall is fighting for fairness, accountability, and a better return for Michigan.
Once again, Hall is doing what conservatives expect from a serious leader. He is asking hard questions, challenging bad deals, and standing up for taxpayers.
