Shining a light on Michigan’s Politics

Speaker Matt Hall and House Republicans are taking on one of the biggest cost drivers facing Michigan families: sky high hospital prices.

Hall introduced legislation aimed at forcing nonprofit hospitals to reduce prices and justify future increases. Under the proposal, nonprofit hospitals would be required to cut prices by 10 percent when the law takes effect. After that, hospitals would be barred from raising prices unless they can directly prove the increase is tied to higher costs of providing care, such as medication, staffing, or other real health care expenses.

Even then, price increases could never exceed inflation.

This is exactly the kind of reform working families need. Health care costs keep rising, and too often patients are left with confusing bills and inflated prices while large hospital systems protect their bottom lines.

Speaker Hall is not afraid to take on powerful interests when taxpayers and patients are getting squeezed. House Republicans are pushing real accountability, real transparency, and real cost reduction.

While others talk about affordability, Speaker Hall is doing something about it.
