Democrats and their allies keep calling Speaker Matt Hall an obstructionist. But when you look at what he is actually stopping, it becomes clear why they are so angry.
Speaker Hall is standing in the way of some of the most extreme proposals in Lansing. That includes driver’s licenses and state IDs for illegal immigrants, new gun control measures, payroll tax hikes on small businesses, gender identity language inserted throughout state law, restrictions on local law enforcement working with ICE, and labor mandates that would drive up costs for employers and families.
He is also blocking efforts to expand prevailing wage requirements, force project labor agreements, impose predictive scheduling, restrict independent contractors, allow local minimum wage mandates, undo local preemption on plastic bag bans, create new legal rights for squatters, push rent control, and weaken work requirements for public assistance. These are not small disagreements. These are major policy fights that affect taxpayers, workers, small businesses, local communities, and public safety.
The radical left wants Speaker Hall out of the way because he is the roadblock stopping their agenda. But for Michigan families, that is exactly the point.
While Democrats complain, Speaker Hall is holding the line. He is protecting taxpayers, defending small businesses, backing law enforcement, and stopping policies that would make Michigan less affordable and less safe. They call it obstruction. Michigan families call it leadership.
