Shining a light on Michigan’s Politics

Once again, the Lansing pessimists counted Speaker Matt Hall out too early.

After days of hand wringing, false media narratives, and political noise around the state budget, Hall’s leadership has brought all sides back to the table. The parties are now meeting and working toward a budget deal, creating a real path to meet the July 1 deadline.

Speaker Hall also called out the media for pushing false reports about the budget and its presentment to the governor. The truth is simple. Neither Democrat budget was on time when it came to the July 1 deadline, and once again, the only reason Lansing has a real chance to meet that deadline now is because Speaker Hall forced the issue and kept negotiations moving.

This is what effective leadership looks like in divided government. While Democrats stall, posture, and rely on friendly media spin, Speaker Hall continues to use discipline, leverage, and smart negotiating to bring people back to the table.

The political class keeps doubting him. Speaker Hall keeps proving them wrong.
